Last year I'm driving by these ponds on my way to work and it's very dark. I'm maybe 20 feet from a duck mom and ducklings before I notice them and that they are walking into my lane. I'm going at least 60 mph. She realizes there is a car bearing down on her in the other lane and there is no way I can stop in time. She puts on a burst of speed and I nail her with my car. I don't expect those ducklings lasted long.
