I was really cautioning about investing in the stock market; I think it's in major trouble after it squeezes a little higher in the coming week.

I tend to think of CDs and bonds as a safe harbor to make a small, guaranteed return--a good place to park your money. I don't really think of them as "investments", but they clearly are. (And I have a large chunk of my portfolio in precisely that kind of fund right now--earning that kind of safe return. I sold my equities a couple of weeks ago.)
