My state charges an extra $150 annual registration for evs
But this is a problem. Historically mpg has been loosely correlated with weight of vehicle. For example semi trucks get worse mpg but also cause more wear and tear on roads so it evened out. It wasn't perfect but pretty good. Evs and hybrids are causing a problem and states are trying to find a way to fix it.
