Theoretically, you could. I am aware of one Psychiatrist in my area who has a
majority of their practice in psychotherapy rather than medication management, but it is very rare.

He'll likely get more focused training on psychotherapy in a clinical psychology program or a Master's in counseling program than med school, and his psychiatry residency would likely be heavily focused on medication management.

I'd encourage him to talk to practitioners in the various mental health fields about what their typical day is like. I'd be happy to talk with him, though I'm early in my career.
