That's a completely different argument. He asked,
"where, there are mountains everywhere." There quite literally are not mountains everywhere. Unless you've never left Utah County, you would see plenty of Utah is covered in flatland, not mountains.

FWIW, there was no water and infrastructure 200 years ago either. I think our American ingenuity could probably figure out how to populate other areas of the state (country) rather than stuff a bunch of high-density apartments into already packed cities.
