Hybrids are not as fun to drive as EVs and have way more moving parts than ICE
or EVs, so they're seen as a ticking time-bomb on the maintenance/upkeep side after the honeymoon period. Also, what's a short distance commuter? Most EVs these days are close to 300 mile range, so unless your "commute" is a regional traveling salesperson, most commutes are ideal for EVs. I'll readily admit EVs are not good road trip vehicles, but for 98% of typical driving situations, they're great. Also, convenient frequent charging availability is kinda a non-issue for people who install a level 2 charger at their house. I've charged my EV at third party charging stations about 6 times in the last 18 months. I don't miss going to the gas station 2 times per week.
