I'll readily admit EVs are not good road trip vehicles, but for 98% of typical driving situations, they're great. Also, convenient frequent charging availability is kinda a non-issue for people who install a level 2 charger at their house. I've charged my EV at third party charging stations about 6 times in the last 18 months. I don't miss going to the gas station 2 times per week.
