That Sportac number that everyone quotes is completely fake and ignores several components of the actual CBT payroll number, including deferrals, money that is owed for player benefits, etc.
Everyone should know that the sportac number is bunk because the Dodgers are clearly over the highest CBT tier of $297m.
The rest of your post is absurd. The Dodgers have the second highest payroll in baseball, again which is great. Good for them. There is no way to play down that number and try to say it’s lower than it actually is. The advantage of being $30m over the highest CBT number where every dollar spent counts for more than double in tax dollars is crazy. You can’t ignore that. Only the Mets, Dodgers, and Yankees dare pay it.
The Dodgers signed Yamamoto to ginormous deal only because they have some of the biggest payroll flexibility in the world. You can’t just ignore that because you want to be defensive when a Braves fan (with a relatively high payroll too) tries to talk smack. Own it.
