I agree it’s a big problem for places like Hawaii and other major travel
destinations. But if you can’t afford to buy a home where you want to live, better to find a place where you can afford it. For example, I’d love to live in Aspen, Colorado, but I can’t afford it so I live in a less pricier area.
Two caveats. They need to create protected, affordable housing for natively descended Hawaiians. Second, since Hawaii is primarily a tourist economy, they need to create affordable housing for service workers like cooks, hotel housekeepers, valets, etc. The tourism can’t function without those people.
