And the last few years, I've noticed the traffic on 89 is lighter and a lot of major problem areas have been widened to include passing lanes now.

No, going 89 is faster. It is faster on Google Maps and faster in real life.

89 route is 30 minutes to an hour faster depending on a couple of factors but it is still the fastest route.

Flagstaff drive is more interesting. Whenever I'd do a round trip I'd go one way out and the other way back.

It’s highway 20. Incidentally, it’s almost exactly 20 miles long.
