Just because you have insurance doesn't mean you automatically earn the right to
get care. Here is another scenario and it is true because it is mine. I am self-employed and have a high deductible plan. I pay $1,500 for insurance each month. My annual deductible is $5,000 before insurance starts to pay anything. I pay over $20,000 for essentially catastrophic care. My daughter has type 1 diabetes, so needs insulin for her to live. Why should I have to pay the pharmacy thousands of dollars for insulin? I have insurance? The care is necessary or my daughter will die.
