something very different. The fall of communism has made a huge difference, along with the adoption of market economies and various forms of democracy in most former Soviet satellite states. But clearly the conflict with Russia is still there, after a brief hiatus, albeit at a lower level of intensity (so far).
I think the fact that most of the Warsaw Pact countries are now in NATO, along with a few former Soviet republics, is a pretty clear indicator of how different the "cold war" is these days. Also, there are Russians all over the place in the West; there is much more freedom of movement than there ever was during the Cold War.
