These can't be things you heard about and didn't see. These have to be things you witnessed with your own eyes and heard with your own ears. I have three wild ones:
- Youth Football Parent Fistfight - My son was playing 5th grade football. We were playing at Alta's youth fields (behind the Larry H Miller building in Sandy). On the field next to us we hear some yelling. I turn around and 10 feet from me, a coach from one of the teams and a parent from the other team (I think Judge Memorial and American Fork) are having an actual fistfight. Their wives are trying to pull them off of one another, shirts are getting ripped, fists are flying. It was wild. One of our assistant coaches who was a cop goes over and pulls them apart and threatens to arrest them. They hugged it out. True story.
- Two Dads Started Screaming at Each Other - We had a wild situation on my son's lacrosse team. Recently two dads on our team started screaming at each other on the sidelines during a game. Multiple other parents had to get between them and split them up (including me). That was fun. There's a whole back story I won't get into in case they happen to be on CB lol.
- Ref Quitting - One youth lacrosse game v Park City. The referees were so bad and the parents from both sides were so over-the-top abusive that the refs just left. Like during a play stoppage they grabbed their bags and ran off the field. That was kind of crazy. Boys emerge from their huddles and the refs are gone. Coaches talked and just decided to end the game.
I have so many other stories of parents screaming at refs and coaches. Coaches flipping out at refs, coaches getting in fistfights with other coaches on their own staff, and even getting screamed at for 10+ minutes by a coaches wife.
What are your craziest youth sports stories?
