I agree with you, just don't think the competition is noticeably easier.
But I think BYU had a down year, and is likely to be a little better this year, which is why I'm guessing 6-6, with fewer beatdowns. But there will still likely be a couple of tough losses to swallow.

FYI, the Over is +104 and the Under is -128 (Fanduel). This is just to say that they view the under as more likely.
