article out. If their writers are doing nothing but sitting down and typing random words on a page, then I'd imagine their articles are garbage. But if they have half-way decent articles I've got to assume that typing their articles is on a fraction of the time that is spent on their production. There's coming up with ideas, formulating research, organizing your thoughts, writing the article, reviewing and editing the article, etc.
In fact, if you look at statistics, the average article length in the New York Times is 622 words. The "recommended" length for a news article should be somewhere around 500-1500 words. Regardless jacobin itself states that most of their articles are less than 2,000 words in length - which is ironic because if one of their free lance journalists were to submit a 2,000 word article every single day (5x per week), they would be making the exact same amount of money as the average Walmart employee (except with no benefits).
