O-Linemen usually take more pride in pass blocking than run blocking.

And I'm guessing that he wanted to prove his out of box creativity and clout as an OC by trying to change it up this year to prove it was him and not a prior system continuing on - most college coaches have that level of arrogance driving them - which is why they are usually very good/driven...
