After 2 major debacles, they needed to hire a proven guy who would almost certainly bring success to Utah, especially given their higher profile league.

I bet Hill really tried to do so. Rose would have been great. Krueger would have been as well. He could have sold boosters on a few others as well. Not sure Crisco fits the description, but Rice has no experience as HC. Combine that with the fact he is coming from the Y and it would have gone over like a lead balloon.

I think Rice will make a good HC, hopefully replacing Rose if he goes elsewhere. And Hill might have been able to hire him to replace the fatman, but not under these circumstances.

Funk is freaking out about Crisco, many here would be also if that ugly shoe were on BYU's foot.
