Many national writers and people around college football believe that Super conferences are the beginning of a playoff system and will further divide the haves and have nots. The super conferences will break into 2-8 team divisions which are essentially mini-conferences. Then the conference championship games are like the first round of a playoff, then they champs move to the final four. Being left out of that would be detrimental. Even Notre Dame will join a conference is that is how things are going because not being in would be costly
