...the point about talent you ALUFs bring up is a reality that many of my fellow BYU fans need to understand: even with BCS-league membership, BYU still won't be able to recruit just anybody. The recruit always will need to be a "good fit" for BYU, which means fitting into: 1) the Honor Code's structure of standards, 2) BYU's tough undergrad academic environment, and 3) Provo's culture.

In other words, we may join the Big XII, but we rarely - if ever - would win the league title with the recruits available to us. As an independent, we have more control over the difficulty of our schedule. I'm not saying independence is better than Big XII membership, but it's not as bad as some are portraying it. There are perks.
