There is maybe not a more overbearing group
of people than the home birth crowd. Luckily I don't have to interact too much with them but when I have it blows me away how vocally they look down on people that go to hospitals or *gasp* have a c-section. Now let me make this clear, I don't care whether you have a home birth. Big props if you do, you are saving money and headache (usually). However, most do not give that same respect back. Most of them use the same statistics and myths as each other and it gets old. Of course this is similar to other groups that get on a specific health kick:

The biggest one is that the U.S. infant mortality rate is one of the highest in the developed world - http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2005/3/9/184540.shtml This is similar to the problems with the studies on education.

The other items they spread around are that c-section babies rarely breast feed properly, that the epidural poisons the baby etc. If people want to do home births and advocate it, just use real reasons and don't make up all these pseudo-scientific things. It is a bizarre by-product of the Internet that we have more people that believe in false science than every before. It has given voice and paranoia to so many people when in an ideal world it would be the opposite. Some real reasons for home births would be the following:

1. Much lower cost
2. No pressure to hurry to deliver or getting bugged by the crazy nurses
3. More comfortable for mother and baby after etc
