She admitted she only gets calls when the home birth is not going as planned, but she shared a few stories of scary home births that involved incompetent midwives and/or out-of-their-mind parents.

One involved a couple that both (yeah, the husband, too) stayed naked in the kiddy pool after the baby was born and completely neglected, and nearly killed, their newborn baby. Rather than cloth the baby or wrap it up, they stayed in the pool, naked, and were making out. Meanwhile the incompetent midwife didn't really do anything about it either, but did manage to call the hospital. My SIL took the baby to the NICU, not because their was anything wrong with the baby, but simply because no one in that house was going to lift a finger for the baby until they came to their senses.
