Utah couldn't get a deal w/Notre Dame to come to SLC...
For some reason, Ute fans are stuck on conference affiliation as a marker for success and prestige. It isn't.
There is absolutely no way Utah's administration thinks they would get BYU to do a 2 for 1. Utah can't even get USU to do a 2 for 1 (even though BYU did). The programs are on pretty even footing right now, although for scheduling purposes BYU has more risk (less negotiation power combined with more possibilities).
It's absolutely ludicrous to think that there is "no upside" to playing BYU. It is a mutual benefit to both schools and for different reasons. BYU would not have dropped Utah from the schedule if they were in the P12 and Utah was in the MWC.
