Fear? It's competition!
Coke and Pepsi do each other no favors. Utah is trying to take out its biggest in state rival and a top 5 recruiting rival. Utah also fights BYU for local media attention, share of mind, and being on the front page of the DNEWS/TRIB. They are competitors! What is wrong with doing everything in your power to take out your competition? It's not wimpy, it's smart.
