Looking back at the Utes' BCS year, I find it interesting that they were able to accomplish that without a standout QB. Johnson was a terrific leader and had football smarts, but he was limited physically and in talent. Despite this weakness, the Utes were able to depend on the solid defense and other role players to end up undefeated.
So why can't BYU string together a special season with a QB like Nelson? Riley is just as good as Johnson was IMO and maybe even better. He may not have the decision making that Johnson had, but he can make a lot of plays with his legs. That's something Johnson didn't have his senior year.
