I switched to a managed account for my Fidelity 401K about two years ago...
it is now much more diversified than when I was managing it myself and the returns have been higher and the losses, when the market goes down significantly, have been less severe. Considering that I have been paying about $2000-$2500 (a management fee percentage paid quarterly based on account average balance) a year to have it managed, I still think I am ahead of where i would have been with a self-managed account. YMMV
