You think it's possible you over analyze to satiate a bias?
Advanced metrics as applied to soccer player evaluations is in my view probably a precarious thing.

Here is something I found on the Internet at
https://www.titanbet.co.uk/magazine/football/five-reasons-ronaldo-is-better-than-messi.html that pretty much echoes what I said about Messi benefiting from that career-long warm consistent cocoon of Barcelona :

"4) Ronaldo has worked in a more inconsistent, and less accommodating, environment

Although clearly the fulcrum of the Real Madrid team, Ronaldo's achievements have functioned in a context less suited to his individual talents than Messi. At Barcelona, the tactical philosophy has remained consistent throughout the majority of the 21st century, with Messi's slow-motion positional drifts accommodated fully by a supporting cast of tireless runners, whose possessional superiority and positional dominance allow a creative genius to flourish without restraint.

Ronaldo is regularly afforded a similar role at Real, although his teammates' inferior attacking dominance means that he is more frequently expected to lead those around him, or create the space needed to score. Messi's experience with Argentina offers a more direct comparison to Ronaldo at Real, and the Argentine's numerous issues at international level are perhaps evidence of Ronaldo's overall superiority. In a mid-table side, where the speed and movement of teammates severely limits personal capacity to excel, it seems more likely that Ronaldo would prosper."
