Here’s the counterpoint I’ve heard - lack of year round training
College teams can’t train year round so the player development stalls as compared to players who go the pro route.

There is no adequate pro route for women's soccer, so the ncaa system wins out.

I think that might be changing as more and more European men’s clubs are promoting their women’s teams and providing opportunities there. I expect Manchester’s big clubs to develop women’s players better than North’s Carolina.
