It is also because most of the crowd is there for BYU
I have seen very few other stadiums that BYU dominates more than UNLV's Sam Boyd Stadium. That being said, for the BYU Utah Bowl game, even with my inlaws getting tickets with being season ticket holders for almost 35 year at that time, we ended up on the very back row of the temp bleachers along the sideline. (it was a lottery system, so we did not have a choice in where we sat) My wife, who wanted to go with less than a month before delivering our first child, about died because she could not sit when needed and see the game. (we normally love to stand but this time was bad for her and my elderly inlaws. My inlaws ended up spending most of the 2nd half in the car because he was not too far from having a liver transplant and the standing was rough, especially with the cool weather) Her brother, a Ute alumni, bought his tickets off stub hub and for very little more, ended up in actual seats, instead of the 50 year old temp bleachers. We were waiting for those bleachers to collapse at any moment or someone to fall through the chainlink fence, as it was being tested as people were leaning against it. I have never felt worse for those with me than that game and would gladly had upgraded to better seats had we known our seats were on temp bleachers. Most uncomfortable game I have ever had and people were constantly dropping items and having to awkwardly, walk below us to retrieve purses and other items throughout the entire game. All of those first half interceptions probably did not contribute to that experience, either.
We did enjoy when we went to the BYU UCLA Bowl game except the stadium was really worn down. It was probably would have been really good but the weather was so dang cold for Vegas and we were dressed up like a BYU winter game. Fortunately, we had driven down through that horrible blizzard so we had prepared extra warm clothes just in case of a vehicle breakdown or emergency. Of course, winning on that blocked kick right in front of us, was also a great way of forgetting about the comfort factor level because it was the only time I have ever stormed the field and even had an 80 year old with us, leading the way to the field.
