It seems as though having a hard plastic chair would help with that problem (or at the very least wouldn't make the leg-room situation any worse).

This is my biggest complaint. The leg room at LES is small. I'm only 5' 11" and I feel cramped.

I think people lean back in part because of no room for their knees in front.
