I thought we’d be seeing an aggressive defense, like Yewtah, and it’s been the opposite. It seems like the type of defensive scheme byu runs is going to yield around .500 results at best, like we’re seeing. To be fair, a lot of Sitake’s DL recruits looked to be an upgrade on paper, and there’s been some unexpected injuries, retirements, and guys not being as good as they looked coming out of hs.
Obvoiusly the hiring of Detmer was a disaster, but that’s primarily on TH. It’s too early to say on Grimes, but at least it seems he requires discipline and technique. The play calling needs improvement. The scheme itself is much better than Detmer’s, but on the other hand hadn’t proven consistent either. OL is showing signs of improvement, but again lacks consistency.
I think a lot of the offensive issues stem from Wr recruiting not being good enough, which is a big problem for any offense. Cahoon was a disaster of a coach and Sitake came in with pretty empty WR cubbards, but hasn’t done a lot to actually address the WR talent either. He did get Gunner and Chase Roberts (mission) who could be upgrades. The freshman kid from Texas could be good too. We need a JC WR or two. Speed
