To why this is a terrible choice. You have disappointed me CB.
This actually has little to do with me not liking their music. I actually really like A lot of Shakiras spanish music. I don’t love J Lo but 1 or two if her songs are on my wife a I’s ‘dance party’ type playlist and one in particular is especially fun to dance to (maybe in a slightly ironic way). The issue I have is that the Super Half time show should be a best of the best type of show. So IMO it should be a historically Iconic group or Singer (a long history of incredible popularity and success). OR a currently popular top group/singer.
I don’t think think these two fit into either of those categories. JLo had a few hits in the late 90s early 2000s, and then like one or two more in the early 2010s. But hardly prolific. Her popularity is mostly for non musical performance reasons: American Idol Judge, Fly Girl, Actress, Ben Afleck/P-Diddy/Marc Anthony relationships.
Shakira has had maybe 3-4 hits in the US over a 20 year period IOW few and far between. She’s more popular internationally but this is the super bowl not the Wold Cup (BTW her WC song was song was mediocre).
As far as currently Popular musically, well I’ll just post a link to the Billboard Top 100 for 2019 (spoiler alert neither are on it).
As Far as historically Iconic here’s some ideas.
As far as who I’d book that hasn’t performed already and is Alive/performing.
Queen, Journey, AC/DC, KISS, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters? Heck If they went with any of the top 10 Billboard artist above, I might not like it but I could understand it.
