I got the overheat warning and pulled to the side
off the road and shut it off less than a minute later. Hopefully I didn't mess anything else up.

The water pump was toast and not functioning because the belt was off.

He had no water. Not immediately shutting off would warp a head at best, destroyed the block at worst.
