relatively low Kenpom rating compared to other metrics. Ken said that BYU's Kenpom rating is a bit lower than other metrics because BYU hasn't really blown out many opponents, which was pretty insightful.
BYU has only beaten 4 teams by 20+ points this season, and one of those was a DII school, which I don't think gets factored in. And at the time of the interview, BYU's blowout of Portland hadn't happened yet, IIRC. BYU has also been blown out twice. Since Kenpom is a predictive tool, it will factor in margin of victory quite a bit. So until Thursday night, BYU only had 2 blowouts and had been blown out twice. Most metrics will think highly of good teams that blowout lowly competition (see the BYU football team this year), which BYU failed to do against teams like Texas Southern and Weber State.
Now that BYU will get a series of games against the dregs of the WCC, they'll have the chance to put together a run of blowouts over other teams and hopefully ascend quickly in the Kenpom rankings.
