Of course they are related. But if you could only improve one I would take 3rd down defense.

The thing BYU's defense needs to improve the most (and there really isn't a close second) is 1st down rush defense

Maybe don't put the LBs so deep, and teach them to play downhill. And let's hope the DL can get off a block.

I would much rather stop 3rd and short 50% of the time and give up more yards the other 50% of the time.
