I was heading in that direction to some extent.
The last decade was when my own kids moved into HS sports phase. Between the independence phase and the slow drip of BYU becoming ever so slightly less competitive year by year, and me believing most of it was due to external circumstances that neither BYU admin nor the FB coaching staff could do much about, my interest began to wane as I immersed myself into the high school sports at my local high school.

Kalani has really reignited my interest, and my youngest is a FR and a boy. He is not nearly as athletic nor as interested in HS sports as his older sisters. With my daughters VB, XC, BB and track was much more important than a case of life or death. We are a tiny school so my son will still participate but going to FB games are much easier when there are not VB tri-matches every Saturday that my daughters are competing in- although my wife is the HS VB coach so I will probably still go to many for the long haul.

Regardless, back to Kalani-with how he has restored a level of national relevance and with the Big 12 George and Weezie movin' on up my excitement is really high again and at a time and season in life I can enjoy it. But I am convinced at my stage in life if BYU goes through a down period it is easy for me to just lose interest.

So my answer to your question is losing too often-not sure where the threshold is but from 2010-2019 BYU was hovering there.
