6k per person per year deductible and a $12k per year family total deductible, then co insurance at 50% until the max (which I think is statutory under Obamacare) or about $7k per person and $14k per family….
For a family of 6 was $1200 per month for premiums. I am taking it.
Do you have pre existing conditions or a maintenance condition? If you do then you can skip the next three paragraphs, because it won’t work for you. If you don’t I might suggest Christian Health Ministries as an option. I think they are about $900 per month for an fam of 6, and they say they have a catastrophic coverage over $1M, but that hasn’t really been proven that I know of.
I used a similar Healthshare (Liberty) but they have had financial issues and weren’t paying out claims, plus I just got nervous about catastrophic coverage wiping me out financially. They max at $1 M in coverage…I think if the amounts go over that, you are on the hook for 100% payment, so you may have to declare bankruptcy, so a bad accident could be really problematic.
I did Liberty for 6 or 7 years and it has been good, but it isn’t that much cheaper anymore when you figure that the “premiums” for a healthcare aren’t tax deductible (because they actually go towards care, not insurance), AND healthcare isn’t HSA eligible. So, the exchange is actually a reasonable (through not great) alternative.
You may be too late to get on the exchange but they do have exceptions, and maybe your situation qualifies…
