who is not only quite a bit more versatile a defender than him, but also has the strength & handles to attack & probe the key like Dallin does.
If Ashworth were okay being strictly the backup at PG, then I could see Pope pursuing him; but honestly, I think Pope would look for superior shooting at the PG spot only from a guy who has solid defensive versatility as a 1 & 2 (like Woodbury or Harmon). (But even then I'm not sure it's that high of a recruiting priority for him.)
Don't get me wrong. I certainly think Ashworth is worthy of a scholarship. I just think he'd be looking for a role bigger than what Pope is likely up to offering him. Another development in our current rotation we can all but expect to see more of this season is for Trey & Jax to run the backcourt when Dallin sits — with Trey defending the 1, while Jax runs the 1 on offense primarily.
