So they were trying to score 22 points rather than 21 so their total score would be higher. USA got to 20 and Barry (I think it was Barry) purposely clanged two FT's off the front of the rim (He's a deadly FT shooter at about 90%) because one point would have won the game and they wanted two.

However, it just wasn't happening so they eventually settled for the single point and won with 21. The announcers kept talking about what they were doing and their trying to get their score to 22. So maybe they wanted 22 in the last game in case there was a tie but didn't need it in this last game.
