I ran two marathons and climbed Iztaccíhuatl volcano is Mexico. Those were the
toughest ones for me, by far.
Of the two marathons, the Kentucky Derby marathon was the tougher one. I was in better shape for that one than the other one (Shanghai Marathon), but the course is very hilly and it was pretty warm. Shanghai was flat and nice and cool, so it was less difficult.
The volcano climb was to the summit at 17k feet and it was gnarly. It was very steep and most of the climb was in volcanic ash where you took one step forward and slipped a half-step back. There was a blizzard near the top and visibility was terrible, plus at that stage we were walking on a slippery glacier with crampons.
