Finishing 5th/6th (with a losing record in league one year) in the wcc is akin to a losing season in football. BYU scheduled far more wins in basketball than they did in football. It is hard to compare because sake wasn’t playing in a conference. But Pope has done nothing in relation to winning a conference or having any postseason success. Most would’ve agreed with the argument that Pope was a huge disappointment going into this past year. People have been tainted by a team that was, outstanding at home and terrible on the road but ultimately still failed to win anything meaningful
I have been consistent on this point even before Pope left.
But again, neither has been very good so it is a bit of splitting hairs
