It reminds me a bit of Hugh Nibley. He was able to provide criticism of the Church and its culture without endangering his BYU employment let alone his Church membership. Why? Because the Brethren had no doubt about his absolute loyalty to the Church and gospel and his avid defense of both in the key areas that mattered, even when Nibley could see his critiques resulted in no significant change.
I have to believe that BYU leadership would listen to well-reasoned concerns from die-hard, always faithful, fans and supporters. Insulting coaches and administrators, or threatening to switch loyalties to Utah or to boycott games until their wishes are met do not represent that type of fan/supporter.
