Good points...
But I think we might be ignoring that sports also can be great learning, growing, and life affirming activities, in some cases just as good or better than a church activity. My sons have had to learn discipline, commitment, loyalty, sportsmanship, how to deal with disappointment, how to handle achievement, and many more things from playing sports. A lot of the things we try to teach them in church activities.

I think the point is that just because the church schedules an activity or meeting it doesn't mean our salvation is jeopardized because we don't attend, especially during the week. Our kids get a lot of opportunity for church activities, it is almost daily, and advancement and improvement as a person can still be attained if some of the things we do are not church related or sponsored.
