Is the priority playing in the NBA or playing professional.
Those two different; if he wants into the NBA, he should come back next year. Playing professional ball will be there for many years to come; the NBA, not so much. If he doesn't make guaranteed money in the NBA, it will be a very high percentage his NBA career will be short to non-existent.
