It's not about identifying with other religious groups, but identifying as a
disciple of Christ. I'm with mindzeYe's message below. Just like everyone else in the world, members of the LDS church already have a definition of what "Christian" means to them. A follower/disciple of Christ or someone who has faith in Christ and the power of His atonement (something along those lines). I do not care whether that lumps me in with other religions beliefs and teachings, but what I do care about is that other religions and peoples understand that we are disciples of Christ and that we have faith in Him and His atonement. This misunderstanding, in my experience, is a large part of why non-members so dislike the LDS church. Misunderstanding the LDS church makes missionary work more difficult.
