Had heard it was good, always see it on lists. Grabbed it when I saw the Criterion Blu-ray at the library the other day.
In the words of Harold Pinter, "I detest it with unqualified detestation."
Just insufferable and awful. How people could like it is beyond me. That it has an 8.0 on IMDB is astounding. Harold might be the single most annoying character I have ever seen in a movie. Maude might be the second-most. Ebert gave it 1.5 stars, renewing my view of his opinion. Last time I really hated a movie was probably Perks of Being a Wallflower, but this makes that one look good.
