Keep it simple, do a salt and pepper rub. Morton’s kosher salt and freshly
cracked black pepper is the way to go.

I’ve also experimented with putting the brisket on the smoker in a pan with beef broth. That turned out pretty good. Bbq with Franklin has a good YouTube video that goes through all the specifics.
