It was one of those penalties that was surprising called on the golden boy, Jake Locker. I loved the 2008 BYU team, they were gritty and never gave up in that game. Even had that call been against the Cougs, I would have been impressed with the ref for calling the penalty because it is a penalty whether it is in the first minute of the game or final seconds. A penalty is a penalty and their kicker could easily have still made the extra point. That block was huge and the win was absolutely legit. Every player knows that throwing a ball 20 or 30 feet in the air will get you a penalty. It is the equivalent of taunting and was the right call. Locker made a great play but made a stupid decision afterwards. It was the kicker and special teams line, that couldn't prevent the block. Their fans still blame it on the trajectory of the ball being lower because it was a 35 yard kick but any D1 kicker should be able to hit a 35 yard kick. It was great defensive play and would still have been blocked without the penalty. BYU got more than a finger tip on it.
