I bought a house last November. It has ten acres and is at the end of the lane. We’re in the country and I enjoy not having neighbors close. The guy at the beginning of the lane is pretty well hated by everyone on the lane for being a DB. When we bought our place I saw that he owned a 3 foot strip in front of our house as he owned the field behind our house and his deed reads the coordinates minus our ten acres.
One of the reasons we bought our house is because of all the established trees. Our front property line is line with these trees. They are overgrown and needed some real attention that we had already talked about doing. Not two weeks after buying the house I’m pulling out to work and I notice the neighbor with his backhoe our in front of the place. I get out there and he has reach over our fence and sawed down one of our trees. I ask him what he’s doing and he says he’s getting “firewood”. I said could you saw down someone else’s trees? He then states “well you know I own from your fence to 3 feet into the road”. I said yeah but it still gives you no right to saw down my trees. I then tell him to clean up his mess and leave. He never does clean up the tree that he chopped down.
2 days later we schedule a sit down and go over with him and his wife about property lines and basic neighbor etiquette. His wife had no idea what happened and was horrified when she found out what was up.
So now 6 months later we have been catching some skunks around the property and drowning them. One may have made it into the cab of his swather. I just can’t help but wonder how that first cutting went.
