I don't think the RR would care. They likely aren't even aware of the trees (except now that you've written them
about it).
Are the tracks used at all?
You can also strip the bark off the bottom 1 foot of the trees and that will mostly kill them. A few roots may survive and spring up new shoots but they would be easy to clip off.
