And wasn’t given extra time by the studio to prepare like he did for Lord of the Rings. Guillermo del Toro was going to direct and did all the prep, but the studio didn’t like it and forced him out. Jackson had to spend a lot of time winging it, so it’s amazing that the films even turned out decent. The studio also made a change after finishing the principal photography to expand the films from 2 to 3, so he had to figure out more ideas to film to make them longer, thus the love triangle and some of the other things that didn’t work. So I can’t compare Jackson to Lucas at all. Lucas had all the time and power. Jackson did not. I’d love for Jackson to release a re-edited 2 film version of the movies to see what could have been.
