I was at the Shanghai train station that night as part of BYU study abroad.
Things were very chaotic there with lots of troops. It was an uneasy train ride to Nanjing. When we arrived there it was an absolute madhouse, panic, rumors about the army coming. It took us a couple of hours to get through the crowds back to our dorms. We had a radio there that could get the BBC and VOA. Crazy times. BYU pulled us out about a week later.
